Bio:
Twenty years of volleyball experience still is not enough for Joe.  As a continuous student of the game, Joe spends time analyzing the game than watching it.  That’s where he finds true enjoyment in keeping current with the ever-changing trends.  Joe has played competitive and organized volleyball since the 8th grade.  He has played throughout his high school years at Niles West, including setting a team to a perfect 19-0 season.  Joe’s most memorable moment during high school was getting hit in the face by Tom Hoff (Maine South/Olympic Gold Medalist) and has the battle scar to prove it.

After high school, Joe has played in numerous college club teams, including playing for Marquette University and Oakton Community College.  He has also competed in the Adult A division in the USAV where he set his team to be ranked overall, 8th in the nation in their division.  Joe continues to play competitively at a high level.

From a coaching perspective, he started when he began coaching another APM coach, his brother Chris, when Chris was only 4 years old. Since then he began coaching almost every family member that came through his doorway.  Joe has also spent time at local high schools and colleges and the Special Olympics, lending his expertise.  He began coaching club at Energy VBC during the 2008-2009 season for the 15’s elite.  His team garnered 3 club wins and was ranked top 50 in National qualifiers.

Joe’s first season as a high school coach began this year coaching the JV for Regina Dominican high school.  His girls ended their season winning the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference – White Division championship.

Joe had the great opportunity within the past year to assistant coach with Gold Medal Olympian and former USC head coach Pat Powers.  During this time, Joe was able to coach various individuals for the Puerto Rican Junior Olympic National Team.  During the summer, Joe spent time at the University of Iowa and have court time with the lady Hawkeyes.  There, he also worked with Cathy Noth, former Olympian and University of Nebraska coach.

Joe is looking forward and is excited for the upcoming APM club season.  Always doing more than just coaching volleyball, Joe takes advantage of looking for the ‘leadership quality’ in individuals and guiding them towards success.
